Fannishly, Ireland is often viewed as the whole island, both Eire and Northern Ireland. Fanhistorically, Irish Fandom meant the Wheels of IF in Belfast and the fans who gravitated around them. More recently, it becomes confusing, at least to those of us on the other side of the pond. Hence, Fancyclopedia 3’s pages for Northern Ireland Fandom before 1965 are categorised 'ireland' and 'uk', for social, not political, reasons.
Activity in Eire is concentrated in Dublin, which hosts the Irish National convention, Octocon, and hosted Dublin 2019 Worldcon.
Northern Ireland’s fandom still clusters mainly in Belfast, with the Belfast Science Fiction Group and Titancon, and formerly, MeCons and Nicons.
