George Flynn was a lifelong collector of SF books and magazines, He was a stalwart of NESFA (and a Fellow of NESFA), MITSFS and MCFI and served as secretary of Noreascon Two, ran the George Division of Noreascon 3, helped to run Ditto 11, and served numerous times on the staff of the WSFS Business meeting and Mark Protection Committee. He was the original head of the Long List Committee.

At a Worldcon when the convention newsletter was edited by an LA fan (probably Chicon IV in 1982 where Mike Glyer was editor) in each issue, the newsletter found an opportunity to tease George by adding a comment to the effect that "George Flynn said the drink served was 1.37 times larger than any previous Nuclear Fizz." Each time, the statistic was always 1.37.

This jest was repeated during the Connie Bailout when the SCIFI donation consisted of 100 checks for $13.70 plus a single check for the remaining balance.
