(???? – March 1991)

Sarah 'Sadie' Shaw[1] (née Gourley) was the wife of Bob Shaw and attended many conventions with him from the 1950s onwards.

Her first article, 'Spades Are Trumpery', appeared in Hyphen #15 (November 1955). Ethel Lindsay credited her for the idea of 'asking femme fans the real lowdown on their actifan husbands' for Femizine.[2] Bruce Burn described her as 'hospitality personified' when he visited Irish fandom in 1962.[3] At the last meeting of Irish Fandom in Oblique House on May 6, 1965 Sadie donated the time capsule that was then buried in the front lawn, underneath the cherry tree.

Bob and Sadie married in 1954 and lived in Northern Ireland apart from a period in Canada from 1956–58, before relocating to England in 1973. She died suddenly, devastating Bob; he remarried in 1995 shortly before his own death.
