Robert K. Pavlat was a fan from the early 40s and was probably most active in the 40s and 50s. By the late 50s, his fanac was mostly local and in FAPA. He was one of the founders of WSFA (and held most of the offices in it). His second wife was fellow fan Peggy Rae Pavlat, 19 years his junior, with whom he raised a family. He was made a Knight of St. Fantony in 1971 and was one of the Elders. With Bill Evans he produced the Evans-Pavlat Fanzine Index which continued the Swisher Index.

He chaired Disclave 4 and was "dictator" of Disclave 5. He was a member of the Washington in '77 Worldcon bid. He knew what a Nuclear Fizz was. He received the Big Heart Award in 1983. He served in most of the offices of FAPA, also.

Peggy Rae complained that hotels would often conflate their reservations with those of Ross Pavlac.
