Swancon and Continuum[edit]
When Danny Oz conceived of Continuum conventions in the 1990's, he was inspired by Perth's Swancon conventions.
City | Perth | Melbourne |
Convention | Swancon | Continuum |
Foundation | WASFF | Continuum Foundation |
Award for Overwhelming Contribution | Silver Swan Award | Infinity Award |
Achievement Award | Tin Duck Award | Chronos Award |
Award for Service to Fandom | Marge Hughes Award | Ian Gunn Memorial Award |
Another way in which Continuum parallels Swancon is in recognition of fans who've attended multiple times. Swancon awards 20 Year Badges and 33 Year Badges to fans who've attended the corresponding number of times. Continuum recognises those at their 10th Continuum as "Continuum Lifers".
Convergence and Continuum[edit]
Attendees of early Continuum conventions could be forgiven for suspecting that Convergence was what Continuum is called when it's a Natcon, Convergence conventions having been held in two of the years, 2002 and 2007, that Continuum was not held, and those two Continuum conventions having been Natcons, whereas the intervening Continuum conventions were not. Danny Oz had deliberately made it difficult for a Continuum convention to be a Natcon, but Emilly McLeay rose to that challenge, and her example has been followed by Julia Svaganovic.
Continuum 3 Venue Change[edit]
Continuum 3 in 2005 was going to be held at the same small venue as previous Continuum conventions. Then Neil Gaiman mentioned on his blog that he'd be there, and there were so many membership applications that a larger venue needed to be found.
Lifetime Members[edit]
Continuum has a few lifetime members: Merv and Helena Binns, Jack Dann
