The 76th Worldcon (officially named "Worldcon 76 in San Jose," but sometimes called ConJose 2), the sixth in the Bay Area, was held August 16–20, 2018, at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California.

Guests of Honor were Spider Robinson and Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, Fan Guests of Honor were Pierre and Sandy Pettinger, and Ghosts of Honour were Edgar Pangborn and Bob Wilkins (host of Creature Features on Bay Area TV 1971–84). Chair was Kevin Roche.

The con was selected at MidAmeriCon II in the 2018 Worldcon Site Selection race between New Orleans in 2018 and San Jose in 2018. It held the 2018 Hugos, 1943 Retro Hugos, 2020 Worldcon Site Selection and 2019 NASFiC Site Selection.

Controversy ensued over the programming when some neopros, including a few Hugo nominees, complained on social media about not being included. Also, one pro was misgendered in an initial online bio. The pros and others accused the committee of insensitivity and racism. Several authors withdrew from the program asking that their slots be used for the newer pros, according to File 770’s account of “Worldcon 76 Program Troubles.” Late in the process, a pro, Mary Robinette Kowal, stepped in to reorganize the program.

The convention was embroiled for years afterwards in a lawsuit over its exclusion of a writer and subsequent public comments made by the committee. Four of the five complaints were dismissed by a court in February 2019. After a judge refused to dismiss the final complaint in May, 2021, the convention and the author came to a settlement on June 4.

The Mexicanx Initiative was a campaign led by SF/F artist John Picacio to sponsor attending memberships to Worldcon 76 in San Jose and award them to fifty Mexicanx artists, writers, filmmakers, culture shapers, and fans, in order to increase Mexicanx representation in science fiction and fantasy. The project was a finalist for the 2019 Best Related Work Hugo.
