Denver, Colorado (including nearby Colorado Springs and Boulder) had a fannish culture surprisingly early -- Olon F. Wiggins of Denver wrote letters to prozines beginning in 1932, helped found the Colorado Fantasy Society in 1940 and in 1941 brought home the third Worldcon, Denvention. World War II ended organized fandom in Denver, but the Colorado Fantasy Society was revived at the War's end and lasted into the 1960s.

After a split in the Colorado Fantasy Society, Camille Cazadessus helped found a new club, the Denver Area Science Fiction Association, DASFA, which was founded in December 1968 which sponsored MileHiCon beginning in 1969.
