Keith Otter
(???? – )
Keith H. Otter was a fan from London active in the 1960s and early 1970s. He was a member of the BSFA and the Science Fiction Club of London (SFCoL) and was on the committee of Loncon II in charge of programme.
Otter was listed in Ron Bennett's Directory of Science Fiction Fandom from 1961. He joined the SFCoL and was elected secretary in 1962. He was a member of the Eastercon in 1963, 1964 and 1965 and he was one of the organisers of the second London Minicon slated for November 1968 although in the end it was cancelled through lack of interest.
He had a letter published in New Worlds #103 (February 1961):
In recent editions of New Worlds you have discussed the decrease in sales of science fiction magazines. You complained that the poor quality of Hollywood s-f films turns would-be readers against it, but anybody glancing through New Worlds idly would be given the impression that s-f is rather 'peculiar' and its fans escapists merely by turning to the editorial and Postmortem [the letter column], you and those who write in 'Postmortem' are apt to sound as if you are writing for a small closely-knit circle of people who have set themselves against the remainder of society. May I suggest that you stop using the first person plural?
He was a chartered accountant specialising in company formation so the BSFA called on his services when their AGM voted to transform the Association into a limited company in 1967. He also wrote an article for the BSFA's SF Writer's Bulletin explaining how part-time authors should calculate tax on their earnings.
He was listed as a member of Heicon, the 1970 Worldcon, seemingly with an address in Kenya. He was also a member of Eastercon 22 in 1971.
