Contact
(Did you mean a different Contact?)
Contact was a newszine published by the Contact Group: Ron Bennett, Jan Jansen, John Hitchcock, Ellis Mills and (from #4) Steve Schultheis between 1956 and 1957 with a single issue second series in 1972..
The first three issues were distributed free to members of ISFCC, NFFF, OMPA and FAPA and the mailing lists of Jansen's Alpha, Bennett's Ploy and Hitchcock's UMBRA. Writing in Skyrack #1 in 1959, Bennett said that Jansen had proposed that the newszine should pay for itself:
The surprising thing was that fandom didn't object to paying out for a newszine, but instead seemed to welcome the innovation.
He also said that the title 'slipp[ed] away into limbo after Jan had broken a collarbone in a road accident'.
In 1958 Bennett wrote to Jansen proposing he take over the title. Receiving no reply, he launched Skyrack instead in April 1959.
In 1972 a flyer Contact #1 (December 1972) was distributed as a rider with Checkpoint #27 (November 1972). It was edited by Jansen and billed as a 'second generation publication' bringing 'News seen from a different checkpoint'. It seems to have been a one-off.
