Gary S. Mattingly is a fan currently based in the Bay Area. In 1970, Gary reorganized Cepheid Variable at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, and became the second President of the club. He was one of the founders of the Kansas City Science Fiction & Fantasy Society in 1971.

He later moved to Detroit, was a member of the Wayne Third Foundation and co-founded AutoClave, co-chairing AutoClave 1 in 1976. He was a Neffer and a director of the N3F.

He co-chaired Ditto 2 in 1989 with his second wife, W3Fer Patty Peters. His first wife was W3Fer Denise Rehse, whom he married June 20, 1975.
