David Drake was an American SF and fantasy author and editor. A Vietnam War veteran who worked as a lawyer, he was seen as a major author of the military SF sub-genre. He was known primarily for his Hammer's Slammers series of stories.

He was one of the founders of the specialty publishing firm Carcosa. He lived in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
