Geoff Shaddock

Geoff Shaddock, sometimes referred to as Jeff Shaddock, was a British fan from Sheffield active in the 1950s. Archie Mercer writing in Excelsior #3 described him as:

... something of a mystery – nobody ever seemed clear as to whether he was a fan pretending to be a fake-fan, or a fake-fan pretending to be a fan, or an outright fannish forgery

Mercer was writing about Cytricon III which Shaddock attended with his wife, Eunice, and daughter, Sandra or Susan (Mercer was unsure of her name). Terry Jeeves reported the convention in Triode #11:

Geoff incidentally, came down with me and posed as a press photographer. He even borrowed the equipment and took several photographs. Perhaps the best one being that taken in the bar. Geoff posed his group, fiddled around with flash and camera, called out, 'Hold it !' and a blinding flash was followed by a dull thud as the plate fell out of the camera...

Jeeves also said enigmatically that Shaddock deposited 'several tons of winkles' in Eric Bentcliffe's room.

Shaddock and Jeeves visited Mike Rosenblum in Leeds in 1957. Jeeves said that on the way back:

Geoff and I had a heated argument about a queer light in the sky. I said it was an U.F.O., while Geoff claimed it was a blastfurnace ... it turned out to be the sunrise.
