Mike Resnick
(March 5, 1942 -- January 9, 2020)
Mike Resnick was a native of Chicago who was well-known as both a fan and a pro. He was married to Carol Resnick and father to Laura Resnick.
Resnick began attending Worldcons with Discon in 1963. He, along with Carol, were among the founders of ISFiC, the organization which runs Windycon (and he was on the committee of the first three Windycons) in Chicago. He was a long-time member of CFG and was a member of the Hawaii in 1981 Worldcon bid.
He wrote extensively for fanzines (most notably for Mimosa, but also Challenger, Foxfax, and Lan's Lantern) and published the apazines To Whom it May Concern, and Return of the Heretic as well as published a one-shot called Masquerade.
His 35 Hugo nominations through 2011 are the all-time record for a writer. His wins are: the 1989 Best Short Story Hugo, the 1991 Best Novelette Hugo, the 1995 Best Novella Hugo, the 1998 Best Short Story Hugo, and the 2005 Best Short Story Hugo.
In the 60s and early 70s, Resnick wrote more than 200 "adult" novels under pseudonyms, edited seven tabloid newspapers, and edited a trio of men's magazines. He also produced a weekly column on horse racing for more than a decade, and for eleven years wrote a monthly column on purebred collies, which he and his wife bred and exhibited.
