Uncle Dick's
Revision as of 11:12, 9 June 2021 by Leah Zeldes Smith (talk | contribs)
Dick Smith called Uncle Dick's, the newszine he published with Leah Zeldes in the 1980s, a “gossipzine.” The mimeographed fanzine featured convention and smof news and other items about fan doings.
Smith started it as Uncle Dick's Little Thing, a one-sheet twiltone crudzine that appeared in Windyapa; it received a Hogu Award for Worst Fanzine Title in 1982. The zine gradually expanded and the name was shortened after Zeldes became involved.
The gossip was sometimes heavily laced with opinion, such as an issue featuring a drawing of Martha Beck on the cover and reporting on the TAFF Wars. Uncle Dick’s concentrated strictly on fandom, purposely avoiding sf and pro news.
