The Lincoln Astronomical Society is a UK group based in Lincoln. It was formed in 1959 after an earlier incarnation as the Lincoln Interplanetary Society, and is still extant. As the name suggests, it is concerned with astronomy rather than science fiction but early members of the group had some involvement with fandom. Their Pennell-Hammerton Observatory is named for Peter Hammerton, their founder and president.

The first fans Jim Linwood met were members of the group. In a letter in Prolapse #10 he describes attending a meeting in Archie Mercer's caravan also attended by Hammerton. He says that the Society was the inspiration for Mercer's fannish roman à clef Meadows of Fantasy.

This is a club page. Please extend it by adding information about when and where the club met, when and by whom it was founded, how long it was active, notable accomplishments, well-known members, clubzines, any conventions it ran, external links to the club's website, other club pages, etc.

When there's a floreat (Fl.), this indicates the time or times for which we have found evidence that the club existed. This is probably not going to represent the club's full lifetime, so please update it if you can!
