“The Island of Dr. Gernsbach,” a faan fiction story, was first performed live by the authors, Bernadette Bosky and Arthur Hlavaty, at Corflu 4 in Cincinnati in 1987, and recorded as part of Outworlds 50, the video edition.
- "Now begins the Saying of the Law!" The strong voice rang out.
- And all the fans turned upwards to the speaker, and as one the voices filled the room, and even the hotel corridor beyond.
- "Are we not fen?" they replied.
It was included in Fanthology '87, published by Richard Brandt: The Island of Dr. Gernsbach. “Are we not fen?” became a fannish catchphrase.
