George Senda was a California fan active in the 1970s. A member of LASFS beginning in 1970, he was expelled from the club, and later prosecuted and jailed for his 1972 theft of a fellow club member’s comics collection. The expulsion was quite controversial among LASFAns for many years, since it occurred before Senda’s conviction.
In File 770 19, p. 4 (February 7, 1980), Mike Glyer recalled that in 1972,
George Senda ripped off Bubonicon hucksters, buying lots of material with bad checks. By January 1973 he was convicted of misdemeanor burglary, resulting from his visit to the home of Gary Lowenthal -- Senda pulled up in a Yellow Cab, loaded Lowenthal’s comic collection into it, and took off. This was one of the most bizarre events in the 70s, and Lasfs reacted to it by making Senda only the fourth fan to have his membership revoked.
FAPA and The Cult subsequently refused him admission. In his FAPAzine FAPA Psychotic 2 (ca. December 1972, p. 1), Richard Geis’ pondered, “Do we kick George Senda off the w-l or wait for him not to respond?” “I HEAR YOU KNOCKING BUT YOU CAN'T COME IN, said the Cult to George Senda,” noted Arnie Katz in FIAWOL 8 (January 30, 1974, p. 4).
