The Island of Dr. Gernsbach,” a faan fiction story, was first performed live by the authors, Bernadette Bosky and Arthur Hlavaty, at Corflu 4 in Cincinnati in 1987, and recorded as part of Outworlds 50, the video edition.

"Now begins the Saying of the Law!" The strong voice rang out.
And all the fans turned upwards to the speaker, and as one the voices filled the room, and even the hotel corridor beyond.
"Are we not fen?" they replied.

It was included in Fanthology '87, published by Richard Brandt: The Island of Dr. Gernsbach.

Are we not fen?” became a fannish catchphrase.
