Sigvard Östlund, a Stockholm fan, was a major collector of British and U.S. sf even before Swedish fandom existed. Probably as early as 1951, he became the third member of the Stockholm club Futura, having learned of its existence from fans abroad who had heard of it from one of its founders.
Östlund attended Festivention, the international convention in London, in 1951 and the London SF Con in 1952. Also in 1952 he was appointed to the committee that judged the International Fantasy Award. He wrote what may well have been the first presentation of Swedish fandom in any foreign fanzine; his essay "Science Fiction in Sweden" was published in Ron Smith's fanzine Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser 12, November 1955.
As far as is known, Östlund gafiated after the demise of club Futura. In mundane life, he was an agency director with the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority.
