E. B. Frohvet is a pseudonymous faned known for stirring up controversy. In the extensive LoC department of the rather sercon Twink #4 (Jan 1997), they (using an "editorial we") wrote
The purpose of Twink is to be a good, regular, little genzine. Our "legal" name has no bearing. It's just a distraction we prefer not to get into. Pen names and editorial anonymity have ample precedent, from "George Sand" to modern "rappers".
and concurred to Patrick McGuire's inference that that P. O. Box in Ellicott City, actually meant living in Columbia (both Maryland just outside Washington, D. C.), competing for "newly acquired SF at the Howard County Library".
In the Editorial Notes of January 2001 File 770 (File 770 137, p. 2), Mike Glyer wrote "When Frohvet first appeared, the grapevine promised he was a hoax being carried on by several fans." and reported several details:
Frohvet’s reality was available for anyone to witness at Chicon 2000. Joseph T. Major [misprinted as Mayhew, corrected next issue] said he saw Frohvet at the Big Bar, the “Focal Point Fanzine” panel and at the Fosfax dinner, “So I guess he exists.” Mayhew describes Frohvet as, “Tall, thin, late-middle aged, graying hair and short beard, wears round wire-rimmed glasses.” Tom Feller reported in SFPA, “E.B. explained to us that 15-20 years ago he was very active in convention fandom under his real name and was on the committee for the 1983 worldcon in Baltimore. Then he burned out. He used to write articles for Lan's Lantern under his real name as well.” Guy Lillian III not only met Frohvet at Chicon, “I have a photo of him -- or at least, the top half of his face.” Look for it in Challenger.
Lloyd Penney wrote in a 2022 LoC to Rune #92 "Greetings to David Shea, better known to some of us as E.B. Frohvet."
