NASFiC 2, NorthAmericon '79, was held August 30–September 3, 1979, at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky. It was one of the most successful NASFiCs. Since 1975, the World Science Fiction Society has held a North American Science Fiction Convention in years when Worldcon is outside North America, in this case, Seacon '79 in Brighton, England.

GoH: Frederik Pohl, FGoH: George Scithers. Chairman: Cliff Amos. Attendees: 1928/2030.

A Southern fandom con tradition in the ’70s was to go skinnydipping at midnight, and this tradition was followed at NorthAmericon. Unbeknownst to the swimmers, however, one wall of the pool featured portholes to the hotel bar. Drinkers probably were shocked sober by the sight of some of the fans swimming by.

One of the special features of the convention was a Friday night event of a fannish trip on the Belle of Louisville, a paddlewheel steamboat. One part of the event was a planned filk sing on the boat. Juanita Coulson achieved fannish immortality by Outsinging a Riverboat Whistle.

The convention newsletter was NorthAmeriCon Nebula.

The Louisville in '79 bid was unopposed in the 1979 NASFiC Site Selection at the 1977 Worldcon.
