Mexicon 5 was held May 28-31, 1993 at Hotel St Nicholas, Scarborough. UK after originally announcing a return to The Cairn, venue of Mexicon IV. The co-ordinator, rather than chair, was Mike Ford and the guests were Pat Cadigan. Ian McDonald and Norman Spinrad. The newsletter, was, for the 4th time, The Cactus Times, edited by Dave Langford, Paul Barnett, Abigail Frost and others.

On Sunday afternoon Tom Shippey presented the first and only 'Mexicon Lecture' on 'The Critique of America in Contemporary Science Fiction'. Sunday evening saw a performance of a one-man show by Ken Campbell. The programme claims this was Pigspurt but Ansible #71 confirms it was a try-out performance of its sequel, Jamais Vu.

The 1993 BSFA Awards were presented at Mexicon, rather than the usual Eastercon.

Newsletter #7 reports a membership of 340.
