Four Hells

The 'Four Hells' were defined by Ted Carnell, writing in Sands of Time #8 (January 1943). He noted that the 14 attendees at the first British SF convention came from Leeds, Liverpool, London and Leicester, the Four Els. This conveniently ignored the fact that Maurice K. Hanson was representing Nuneaton because it wouldn’t be quite the same to have Three Hells and a Hen.
