(???? –)

Cyril Evans was a UK fan from Manchester in the 1950s. He was responsible for almost accidentally giving away the Joan W. Carr hoax.

He was married to Frances Evans and it seems that she introduced him to fandom and the Nor'west Science Fantasy Club. They attended the NECON in 1951, the Supermancon in 1954 and Cytricon I in 1955, although Frances moved to London in late 1955 or early 1956 while Cyril remained in Manchester. They clearly divorced at some point and Frances at least remarried.

Sandy Sanderson had enlisted Frances Evans as an early confederate in the Joan W. Carr hoax and perhaps inevitably Cyril Evans had been brought in on the secret. At a fannish gathering Ron Bennett mentioned the idea of creating a hoax wife for himself and Evans said unthinkingly that it had already been done, giving Bennett cause to wonder about the true nature of 'Joan'.

Evans continued to attend fan events through to at least 1958. He was present at the meeting during Cytricon IV where the BSFA was formed but seemingly did not join the Association.
