Austin, Texas, fan, bookseller and collector William W. “Willie” Siros was fan goh at LoneStarCon III, the 2013 Worldcon.
After discovering fandom in 1974, Willie founded and chaired two of the earliest SF conventions in Texas: Solarcon I (1975) and Solarcon II (1976). He was subsequently one of the founders of the Fandom Association of Central Texas and its convention, ArmadilloCon. He chaired the first three ArmadilloCons, as well as nos. 15 and 35.
He ran the Austin in '85 NASFiC bid and the subsequent convention, LoneStarCon. He was a member of ALAMO. He was the “idea man” behind much of Texas fandom in the 1970s and ’80s. He co-founded InstaCon in 1983 and chaired Sercon 2 in 1988.
He met Robert Taylor at Zothique, the El Paso local SF club. They attended their first convention together, Westercon 27 in LA in 1974.
Originally from El Paso, Willie was formerly a para-librarian at the University of Texas Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center and developed its speculative fiction collection. He ran the virtual bookstore Adventures in Crime and Space (once a physical store) and attended conventions such as Worldcon, World Fantasy, and BoucherCon. His brother, Chuck Siros, and sister, Nina Siros, are also fans.
