Phillip A. Schumann, a Milwaukee fan, was a charter member of The National Fantasy Fan Federation (N3F).in 1941. He was a member of the club's Board of Directors in the mid-1940s.

In the 1940s, he was also the editor of the fanzine Frontier, the clubzine of the Frontier Society.

He attended the First Post-Radar-Contact-with-the-Moon Con in 1946. Bob Tucker’s conrep from Bloomington News-Letter 4 (April 1946) commented:
