DeepSouthCon 39 was held May 4–6, 2001, in conjunction with Tenacity 1 at the Radisson in Birmingham, AL. Attendance was 310 and the chairman was Paulette Baker. Catherine Asaro was GoH, Larry Elmore was the Artist GoH, Ned Brooks was the Fan GoH, Dr. Lawrence J. DeLucas was the Science GoH and Weatherly Hardy & Lanie Hardy were the Dealer GoHs. Sharon Green was Toastmaster.

The Rebel Award winners were Robert Neagle and Sam Smith and Sharon Green was the Phoenix Award winner. The Rubble Award went to Steve Francis and Sue Francis "For Retiring Rivercon."
