George Richards
(???? – )
George Richards was a British fan from Yorkshire active in the 1950s. He co-produced Orion with Paul Enever where he is first listed with its third issue in 1954. He was also a member of the Nor'west Science Fantasy Club and of the Supermancon.
In Orion's third issue he proposed an 'Encyclopedia Fan-Britannica', effectively a UK-focused version of Fancyclopedia. This drew some negative reactions from Chuck Harris and Orion #5 included a twenty-page section titled 'The HarrisProCon' which was in some senses a continuation of this discussion. Co-editor Enever seemingly then had second thoughts about it ('...lost its humour when rancor and personal illfeeling crept in...') and replaced the section with two pieces intended for future issues. This was explained in an editorial in the second, amended variant.
The Orion colophon typically credited Enever as publisher with Richards handling distribution, trades and subscriptions although some issues credited both as editors. Richards often contributed a second editorial under the title 'The Other Ed'. After #20 in 1958 they handed the title to Ella Parker. Richards is not evident in Orion thereafter or seemingly anywhere else.
- Orion (with Paul Enever, later taken over by Ella Parker)
