(May 13, 1937 – June 14, 1995)
A pro writer of sf and fantasy who was born in Ohio and lived most of his career in Baltimore before moving to New Mexico. His earliest writing was fiction which appeared in fanzines such as Thurban in the early 50s. He was a member of BSFS, the Swordsmen and Sorcerers' Guild of America and the Fellowship of the Silver Stallion.
He was GoH at Discon 2, the 1974 Worldcon.
Professionally, he made his first sale in 1962 and quickly became one of the leading writers in the field, winning numerous awards for both short fiction and novels. Later, he was best known for his Amber series. His work made heavy use of varied mythological elements.
