(???? – September 1992)

Peter Hammerton was a UK fan from Lincoln and later Sheffield from the mid-1950s. He was a president of the Lincoln Astronomical Society and their observatory is named for him.

He is listed in Ron Bennett's Directory of Science Fiction Fandom for 1956 and appears on the membership list for Loncon I.

He attended the 1959 Eastercon in company with his friend David Hardy. Hardy later wrote in Prolapse #6, 'We felt alienated, because we didn’t really understand what was going on'.

Hammerton is listed as a contact for a Lincoln SF Group in the BSFA Bulletin #10 (January 1967).

In 1976 he moved to Cheltenham to run a post office. He then bought an astronomy bookshop in Sheffield, the Sheffield Space Centre, in 1978. Checkpoint #91 (September 1978) reported the formation of a Sheffield SF Group with Hammerton as secretary. At some point after that he returned Lincoln to run a science fiction bookshop in the Minimarket.
