Baen Books, an American sf publishing company, was founded in 1983 by Jim Baen. Baen emphasizes space opera, hard science fiction, military science fiction, and fantasy. It was "Spotlighted Publisher" at Norwescon XXVII and Norwescon XXXVI.

Soon after Jim Baen died on June 28, 2006, he was succeeded as publisher by longtime executive editor Toni Weisskopf.

Among other things, Baen hosted Baen's Bar, a set of freewheeling discussion forums, moderated by volunteers, on its website. In February 2021, writer Jason Sanford called out Baen for some alt-right user posts there. Weisskopf shut down the forum the next day, but Discon III announced it was rescinding its Editor GoH invitation to Weisskopf.
