A pro writer for the pulps in the ’40s and ’50s, Joe Gibson was also an active fan. In the ’40s, he created a hoax sister, Jay Gibson, who, among other things, published snapzines.
In the mid-’50s he married Roberta Collins, and in the early ’60s they published G2. Gibson also was responsible for the fannish aviation fanzine, The Damned Patrol.
He was a fanartist, too; Harlan Ellison called him a “true ‘craftsman’ of the field” of fanzine art in Sol IX.
