The first attempt to create a regional convention in Chicago occurred in 1958 when Lynn Hickman chaired Illwiscon. Plans for the con, a relaxacon modeled after Midwestcon, were announced on April 14 of that year, and the con was held July 4-6. Although subsequent Illwiscons were tentatively planned, none came to fruition.
Some of the other attendees included Jim Caughran, Sandy Cutrell, Howard DeVore, Bill Donaho, Ron Ellik, and Dean A. Grennell.
