(February 19, 1924 – January 1, 1945)

Alden Lorraine Ackerman was Forrest J Ackerman’s younger brother. During World War II, he served as a private first-class in the U.S. Army (42nd Tank Battalion, 11th Armored Division, D-Company), and was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge.

He is significant fannishly because Forry’s sincere grief led him to do a number of memorials, among them The Alden Press and the Alden Lorraine Ackerman Fund under which name Forry donated money to various fan causes, such as the establishment of the SFCD.

We have no evidence of Alden being active in fandom. He is on the list of “Scientifictionists” supporting the First Worldcon in 1939, but that was likely Forry’s doing. Forry also used Alden Lorraine as one of his many pseudonyms.
