Venom

Venom was a reviewzine with an anonymous editorial board, devoted to pseudonymous "killer" reviews. To submit a ktf review of someone else's work, a writer first had to write such a review of one of their own works.

It is believed that the editors were mostly Bay Area women, and Ursula K. Le Guin later said she was one: her two reviews in Venom #1 (including the obligatory self-hatchet-job on her own The Beginning Place) were bylined "Mom de Plume" and reprinted in her nonfiction collection Dancing at the Edge of the World (1989).

It was also rumored in Patchin Review that Marta Randall was the editor of Venom and that David Hartwell helped fund it: Randall denied being the editor but may have been one of the collective, while Hartwell's comment to Patchin Review was "No comment."
