Chicon 7, the 2012 Worldcon and seventh in Chicago was held August 30 to September 3 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. GoHs: Mike Resnick (author), Story Musgrave (astronaut), Jane Frank (agent) and Rowena Morrill (artist). FGoH: Peggy Rae Sapienza. Chairman: Dave McCarty. John Scalzi was Toastmaster. Sy Liebergot was a Special Guest.

The annual 1632 Minicon was also held during the convention.

On occasion (jokingly) referred to as Chicon 2001 (because the previous Chicon in 2000 was called Chicon 2000) and TASFIC 3 (because Chicon 2 was also known as TASFIC).

The convention's parent corporation was Chicago Worldcon Bid, which sponsored the Chicago in 2012 bid and, previously, the unsuccessful Chicago in 2008 bid. Chicon 7 was selected at Aussiecon 4 to be the 2012 Worldcon. See 2012 Worldcon Site Selection.

Among other things, the WSFS Business meeting considered a motion declaring that Yngvi is not a louse, but it failed.

Chicon 7 had three vice-chairs, Helen Montgomery, Bobbi Armbruster, and Steven H Silver. They were collectively referred to, along with Dave McCarty, as the Flying Monkees.

Chicon 7 presented a Special Committee Award to Chicago author, collector, publisher, bookseller, and editor Robert Weinberg for his service to science fiction, fantasy, and horror.

It hosted the 2014 Worldcon Site Selection.
