Archie Edmiston Roy was Professor Emeritus of Astronomy in the University of Glasgow. He was a member of the British Interplanetary Society and may have been a member of the Caledonian SF Group in the 1960s.
Donald Malcolm wrote an article, 'Phantom Fandom', in the programme book for Faircon '78. This discussed the membership of the Caledonian SF Group of the 1960s, and mentioned one A. E. Roy and I. F. Clarke although, according to Rob Hansen writing in Then, Malcolm 'seemed unsure' about them. It seems at least plausible that A. E. Roy is Archie Edmiston Roy although we're no nearer knowing whether he was in fact a member of the group or had any involvement with fandom at that point.
