Frances Evans, a British fan active in the 1950s, came up with the idea for a femmefans-only fanzine, Femizine. The only trouble was the fan she recruited to edit it, Joan W. Carr, was a hoax she and Sandy Sanderson — a man — were perpetrating. (See more at the Carr entry.)
Science Fantasy News 11 (March 1952) reported: “Frances Evans, 'pin-up girl' of the NSFC had her photo taken holding Gort-the-Robot's hand. and appeared in the Manchester Evening News, 14th J.” She put on a “Future Fashion” show at Mancon in 1952.
She moved from Manchester to London in the mid-1950s, an event also lauded by Science Fantasy News.
