Anne Inez McCaffrey was an American-born Irish pro writer, best known for her Dragonriders of Pern series. She was GoH at ConAdian, the 1994 Worldcon.

She began her sf writing career in the 1950s. McCaffrey was the first woman to win a Hugo Award for fiction (Best Novella, "Weyr Search", 1968), the first to win a Nebula Award (Best Novella, "Dragonrider", 1969), and, therefore, the first woman to win both.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she spent many years living in Wilmington, Delaware, before emigrating to Ireland in 1970. Her children, Gigi and Todd McCaffrey, have continued her legacy.
