(Did you mean Newarkon?)

The Newark Convention, officially the First National Science Fiction Convention and sometimes called the Fourth Eastern, was a convention held at the Slovak Sokol Hall in Newark, NJ, on May 29, 1938, at the call of Will Sykora and Sam Moskowitz.

The first con to pass the hundred mark in attendance, it was marred by feuding and sniping over Michelism, the ISA, the planned First Worldcon, and any other convenient theme. Warren Fitzgerald was among those attending, according to Moskowitz in The Immortal Storm.

Since it had no representatives from west of the Appalachians, the Futurians called it the “Fourth Eastern Convention” for a long time.

See also Early Conventions.
