The first Southwestercon was numbered VI, as a follow-on to Oklacon V. The convention was held at the Hotel Dallas in Dallas, TX, July 4–6, 1958. The GoH was Marion Zimmer Bradley (replacing Fredric Brown who was ill). Forrest J Ackerman was toastmaster. It was chaired by Tom Reamy and Randy Brown, with Dale Hart as honorary chair. It was sponsored by the DFS. It included a banquet ($2.75), a masquerade ball, a rocketry display and the premiere of a new movie, The Space Children.

It was at this convention that the DFS, the sponsoring organization, voted to disband.
