Founded in 1972, Bakka Books is an SF bookstore which claims to be the first sf specialty store in North America. It was located at 282 Queen St W in Toronto, ON in 1974 and was still there in 1984.
Its affiliates in the ’70s called themselves the Bakka Bozos. They made a potent homebrew bheer called Rocket Fuel in plastic garage cans in the store. Some of them lived in apartments over the store.
The latest incarnation of the store is called Bakka Phoenix Books. In 2015, it was located at 84 Harbord Street, Toronto.
