Wally Weber beat Marion Zimmer Bradley and Bruce Pelz, despite receiving fewer European votes than either of his rivals. Weber had previously stood in 1956, losing to Lee Hoffman.
Weber scored 203 points (165 NA, 38 EU), Bradley 165 (118 NA, 47 EU) and Pelz 129 (89 NA, 40 EU). There were 140 North American votes and 56 European ones.
UK administrator Ethel Lindsay released the result to Ron Bennett, who promptly published them in his newszine Skyrack -- thus scooping US administrator Ron Ellik's own newszine, Starspinkle.
