Matthew Gerard Leger, known as Matt G. Leger, is a Southern filk fan, performer and composer and a longtime illustrator for conventions and fan clubs. He is the publisher of three booklets of his filksongs and drawings.
Leger entered SF/F fandom in 1977 by attending Vul-Con V in New Orleans, LA. He began composing filk parodies and original songs in 1981 while attending Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. In 1982, he began self-publishing a series of three annual fanzines of his work, titled Matt G. Leger's Demented, Deranged & Degenerate Filksongs.
In 1979, Leger held his first convention staff position as Staff Artist/Gofer for AcadianaCon I in Lafayette, LA. Since then he has produced artwork for a number of clubs and conventions, including the New Orleans Science Fiction & Fantasy Festival in 1988, where he was Fan Guest of Honor; The LSU Science Fiction & Fantasy Association, which he founded and led as inaugural President from 1982–85; Nolacon II in New Orleans in 1988, where he was Con Suite Quartermaster; staff artist for the Floating Northeast Filk Convention, variously held as Conterpoint, Concerto and ConCertino in the late 1980s and early 1990s; and head of filk programming for Philcon in 2002.
