Barret Eugene "Barry" Hansen, now best known as Dr. Demento, has been involved with fandom since his school days at the University of Minnesota High School in the late 1950s, where he found other fans (Eleanor Arnason, Ron Whyte and Ruth Berman), and the group published a fanzine as well as attempting to start the Twin Cities Fantasy Society.
He was toastmaster at Marcon 36 (2001), Marcon 37 (2002), and Marcon 39 (2004).
Dr. Demento is an American radio broadcaster and record collector specializing in novelty songs, comedy, and strange or unusual recordings dating from the early days of phonograph records to the present. His personal sound collection exceeds 85,000 recordings.
