Paul Doerr became active in fandom in the 1940s, writing to the Weird Tales Club (Weird Tales, September 1945, p. 94), and The Acolyte (Summer 1945, p. 30). By the 1960s, he was living in the Bay Area. He was a member of FAPA in the 1970s, and at one time, he was in charge of the N3F Fische Bureau.

Outside of fandom, he had a wide variety of often offbeat interests, including the Abominable Snowman, Hollow Earth, off-grid living and cryptography. He was married to Rose Doerr; they had a daughter, Gloria.
