Phenderson “Phen” Djèlí Clark is the writing name of Dexter Gabriel, a Connecticut pro and academic. (Djèjí can be pronounced “Jel-ee” or “Jah-lee.” The D is silent.)
Born in New York and reared mostly in Houston, TX, he spent his early life in the homeland of his parents, Trinidad and Tobago. He is an assistant professor at the University of Connecticut.
