Les Flood
(August 25, 1921 – August 1, 2007)
Leslie 'Les' Flood was a British fan and pro active from the 1930s. He was a member of the Science Fiction Association (SFA), joining in April 1937, and of the Science Fantasy Society (SFS).
Flood was for a time on the committee of the 1951 Festivention and was one of the creators of the International Fantasy Award in that same year. At some unspecified point, perhaps around 1956[1], he became involved with Frank Cooper's Fantasy Book Centre, eventually running the Sicilian Avenue shop until at least the 1970s.
He published about 240 reviews in New Worlds between #21 (June 1953) and #141 (April 1964), the last issue to be edited by Ted Carnell. He also worked as a reader for Victor Gollancz Ltd from around 1965 to 1970.
When Ted Carnell died in 1972 Flood took over his literary agency in conjunction with Irene Carnell. He retired from the Carnell Literary Agency in 1986, passing the business to Pamela Bulmer.
In 1976 he was one of the British professionals who came over to the United States for the ill-fated SF Expo. He also served as a council member of the BSFA in the 1970s and 1980s, standing down in 1988.
He died in Marbella, Spain.
