David Gerrold (born Jerrold David Friedman), an SF novelist and screenwriter, is the author of over 50 books, several hundred articles and columns, and over a dozen television episodes. He was goh at the 2015 Worldcon, Sasquan.

He was first known for his script for the popular original Star Trek episode "The Trouble with Tribbles," and later, for creating the Sleestak race on the TV series Land of the Lost and for his 1989 novelette, "The Martian Child," which won both Hugo and Nebula awards, and was adapted into a 2007 motion picture. His juvenile SF novel, Jumping Off the Planet, received the 2001 Hal Clement Young Adult Award for Excellence in Children's Science Fiction Literature.

He is openly gay and the adoptive single father of a son, Sean Friedman. Born in Chicago, Gerrold grew up LA, where he lived until October 2023, when he and his family moved to Vermont. He is a popular, opinionated figure on Facebook.
