Torquay Happy Fan and Lampshade Makers' Society
The Torquay Happy Fan and Lampshade Makers' Society was reportedly the only sf club in Torquay, a seaside town in Devon in the south-west of England. It likely consisted only of Nigel Lindsay and nobody else and so shouldn't be treated too seriously.
Now & Then #4 (June 1955), 'the proceedings of the Romiley Fan Veterans & Scottish Dancing Society', reported that in the aftermath of its first AGM::
... wild and persistent rumours are flying round the village. One of these is that there is a move to merge all the active fan groups into a national amalgamation to be known as the Romiley, Torbay[1], & London Scottish Dancing, Lampshade Makers, Happy Fan Veterans & Promiscuous Snogging Society, with HQ at Belfast.
It seems that such a grand national amalgamation never happened and Lindsay presumably continued to happily fan and make lampshades in splendid west country isolation.

- ↑ Likely a typo. Torbay is about five miles from Torquay.

This is a club page. Please extend it by adding information about when and where the club met, when and by whom it was founded, how long it was active, notable accomplishments, well-known members, clubzines, any conventions it ran, external links to the club's website, other club pages, etc.
When there's a floreat (Fl.), this indicates the time or times for which we have found evidence that the club existed. This is probably not going to represent the club's full lifetime, so please update it if you can! |
